Aeroplan points: why 30 November 2026 is the expiry date to watch
Aeroplan’s normal rule can remove points after 18 months without qualifying activity. In 2026 there is a second layer: Air Canada paused expiry until 30 November. That is an end date, not permanent protection, so dormant accounts should act before the switch.
What is paused
The official temporary-policy page says points that would otherwise expire remain protected through 29 November 2026. The normal expiry policy applies again from 30 November. Aeroplan’s standard inactivity page describes an 18-month clock.
Why the official pages can look different
The inactivity page explains the permanent model; the temporary notice explains when it is not enforced. They are compatible once rule and transition are separated. For an account with more than 18 months of inactivity, 30 November is the operational risk.
What Aeroplan describes as activity
The public help page lists earning, redeeming, donating, transferring and converting. The general terms describe inactivity more narrowly through accumulating or redeeming. For a valuable balance, a clearly qualifying earn or redemption with posting time is the safer interpretation.
What may happen after expiry
Aeroplan describes several possible recovery routes within six months: paying to buy back points, taking an eligible Air Canada flight or obtaining an Aeroplan credit card. Conditions and availability differ. Reinstatement is an emergency exit, not a plan.
The practical timeline
- Now: check the inactivity date and last posted activity.
- By October: choose and complete a useful earn or redemption.
- Before 30 November: confirm the posting and updated account date.
- After the switch: check the ledger again and keep screenshots and receipts.
Bottom line
“Expiry paused” does not mean “points never expire”. Aeroplan returns to its 18-month policy on 30 November. Potentially affected members need an early, clearly eligible posted transaction and evidence — not a panic redemption.
